Don’t Drink the Water!

That’s what more than 300,000 West Virginians are being told, for the fourth day in a row, as I write this.  Charleston, the state’s capital and largest city, is at a stand still.  A highly toxic chemical used in coal production has leaked into the Elk River, just one mile upstream from the intake of the region’s municipal water system. The situation is on everyone’s minds, and stories from the New York TimesWashington Post and LA Times paint a grim picture.
